Sometimes living in an older home can be challenging. Laundry room? Yeah, right. Master bath? Um, no. Closet space? Don’t get me started. And hanging a picture can be like solving a trigonometry equation. Do we try to hang it level with the ceiling? Or the floor? Still, there are many things we love about our old house. Big windows, hardwood floors, and lovely views to name a few. But the real reason we’ll never move has nothing to do with our physical home. It’s because of our amazing group of neighbors who have become more than neighbors. They have become the people who let my kids hang out endlessly at their house, my coffee buddies, my fellow moms who understand me so well. And who never judge me for watching really bad reality TV.
We have found a magical thing here in our neighborhood. Our kids love playing together and we love hanging out. As we had an old fashioned pot luck supper the other night, I realized just how blessed we are. I love my neighborhood girls! They keep me sane. And as my friend Nancy so eloquently put it, having good friends in the neighborhood has made us look differently at our houses. It’s easier to overlook the small stuff.
After all, there are more important things than closet space!
